What is james webb ?

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is an observatory built primarily for infrared astronomy.  Its excellent infrared resolution and sensitivity enables it to examine objects that are too early, far away, or opaque relative to the Hubble Orbit Telescope, the largest optical telescope in space.

Launching:

From Kourou, French Guiana, the James Webb Space Telescope was launched on an Ariane 5 rocket on December 25, 2021. It reached the Sun-Earth L2 Lagrange point in January 2022.

Expectations:

This is expected to allow a wide range of cosmological and astronomical investigations, including observations of the birth of the first stars and the formation of the first galaxies, as well as knowledge of the beginning of the universe and the oldest existing stars over millions of light years, as well as a detailed characterization of the atmospheres of potential exoplanets.

Telescope installation

Primary mirror :

It is the principal light gathering surface (the objective) of a reflecting telescope.

Scientific instruments :

It analyzes the atmosphere of a distant planet in search of life and looks back in time to the time the universe.

Secondary mirror:

Webb's primary mirror intercepts red and infrared light traveling through space and reflects it onto a smaller secondary mirror. The secondary mirror directs the light into the scientific instruments where it is recorded.

Stabilization flap:

Pointing the telescope

Antenna :

Works on the power of the telescope, altitude control and communication systems

Spacecraft bus :

It is the main body and structural component of the telescope in which the payload and all scientific instruments are held.

sun shield:

It is a passive thermal control system deployed post-launch to shield the telescope and instrumentation from the light and heat of the Sun, Earth, and Moon.
